This class provides students with a practical and comprehensive grounding in film production including lighting, camera, composition, audio, and editing. Students are provided with the crucial foundation for an understanding of the entire production process. Students also receive a hands-on overview of digital editing basics in our editing lab -- including audio.
These projects give students experience in the complete production process including scripts and storyboards, shooting, and editing. Class time is devoted to technical skill building, film analysis, screening projects and critiques of student work. This course provides the foundation for the entire spectrum of filmmaking including narrative, documentary, music videos, corporate videos, personal or experimental work, and web videos.
Fundamentals of Filmmaking can serve as a stand-alone introduction to the basics of film production, or as a springboard for other production classes at the Seattle Film Institute. Tuition includes the textbook, and use of cameras and editing equipment. A refundable equipment deposit for checking out equipment is the responsibility of the student.
